About Us.

We work hard every day to provide your family, our family, and the US with the very best quality beef we can produce. From the corn and the hay the cattle are fed, to the pastures they spend their lazy summer days in, we grow and sustain it all. We love ranching and it’s in our blood. We love working on our ranch and believe me there are never two days exactly the same. As a matter of fact, we think it’s impossible.

The Woita Ranch is located in North Central Nebraska in the beautiful and fragile Sandhills. We run 300 black Angus cows which keep us very busy. Besides taking care of the cows, calves, and bulls, we also have to “put up” their feed. We spend most of the summer putting up big round bales of native hay. We also grow some irrigated yellow corn for feed. In the fall of the year, we chop part of the corn for cattle silage. When their ration is mixed, it’s almost like following a recipe for humans. Silage, ground hay, rolled corn, distillers’ grain, and vitamins and minerals all get mixed together for their yummy smelling and tasting ration!

We like to treat our customers like neighbors! We are bringing back good old-fashioned customer service. We will treat you with the respect you deserve and the service you desire.

Even though we seldom can get away for a vacation and we work hard no matter the weather, we really love what we do! We hope you will decide to try one of our ranch-to-door, frozen coolers of beef. It’s 100% Nebraska, grass raised, grain finished, beef and we are confident you’ll taste the difference!

Our Story.

People have said we live on the edge. Seldom a challenge we won’t try, and we love being entrepreneurs. In 1986, after 5 years of marriage and working for other people, my husband and I decided to purchase a ranch. We went to the bank and asked to borrow the money. The banker said, “you can’t just buy a ranch!” They said you have to be born in a family who ranches in order to own a ranch. Hearing this made us even more determined to own a ranch because we already had our mind made up.

Soon after that, we bought our dream ranch and started doing day-work for other ranches in addition to taking care of 3 cattle herds year-round, for 3 different owners. We started out with a John Deere Model “A” tractor, 3 horses, and 2 calves! We depended on outside income to make things work while working on our new ranch. After about a week, my husband couldn’t take on any more day-work as his schedule was full. I worked at other ranches and helped them hay to bring in extra income to pay our way. It was a challenge but we didn’t want to go through life wondering and regretting about not giving it our best shot. Thirty-four years later, we have no regrets and we are still in business! As time went on, we added more cattle to our herd but continued working outside jobs as well. The rest is history!

We now have 300 head of cows, 120 head of yearlings, 6 horses, 3 cattle dogs, and my Japanese Chins (toy breed of dog).  It certainly has been a hard pull, but I wouldn’t trade our dream and ranch lifestyle for anything.  The 4 of us and our families have 4 businesses plus the ranch. My Japanese Chins are counted as a business but they are too much fun to consider work. Lee and Eric have a motorcycle, 4-wheeler and side by side business named W & W Cycle that brings in a supplemental income for them. Lindy loves leather-work a leather crafting business of her own called Iron Outhouse leather.

Lee manages the cattle, crops, equipment, and vehicle maintenance. He does the fencing, calving, irrigating, haying, preconditioning, weaning, hay hauling, and anything else that needs done. He is also a certified Auto Tech and is a major player in being able to continue the family ranch.

Eric sells Crop and Livestock Insurance in the Norfolk, NE area. So about every other weekend, he comes out to the ranch and gives us all a boost. He and Lee have always been best friends so they enjoy working together on projects. Eric is involved with the farming decisions, bookkeeping, marketing decisions, and website coordination.

Lindy is also key in haying and managing the cattle. She manages the horses and is skilled at cattle handling, haying, calving, and feeding among other things.  Lindy is the go-to for vet questions. She spends summer evenings helping 4-Hers train and show horses, cattle, and lambs. She also loves creating beautiful, functional artwork from leather. She is also a great cook!

As many of you know, I have also been raising Japanese Chins for 19 years now. They are my passion and make me very happy. I have met so many super amazing people selling puppies; they seem much like family.

We are excited to share a part of our Ranch with our customers with Woita Ranch Beef!
